WIP: Remember how you used to read the Augmented Eye before work? Now there’s more to do.

  • You can use the tablet to buy furniture and other useless junk for the room.
  • Browse the internet*
  • Practice (but you can already do that in Prologue)
  • Pay your bills.
  • Talk to your cat. 

I think you’ll be able to change the tablet’s wallpaper, but I can’t make any promises about that since that selfie with supervisor was a lot of work.

I’ll explain the “pay your bills” thing later, don’t worry.

*you can just browse your bookmarks (like the Augmented Eye’s homepage) and special URL’s given to you, it’s not an actual internet browser.

In short, things are not pretty. You would think that earning in a foreign currency would be a good thing while living in a third world country but as you probably just read, that doesn’t work around here and even if it did, it’s useless because finding any food is getting more and more difficult, so most people are resorting to just buy whatever they see in stores. I’m already picturing myself eating nothing but rice with butter in the coming months…

On the bright side, we have computers and internet, that’s all we need to keep working and we’ll never give up! and if VA-11 HALL-A makes enough money we’ll certainly move out of here. Maybe to Colombia since it’s like 12 hours away from my house haha.

With that said, even if our little game is not a smash hit… we’ll keep doing games, probably until we die because this is the only thing we’re “good” at, we have no choice but go forward and deliver the best waifu games we can. We’ll finish VA-11 HALL-A, it will be *awesome* and we’ll do more games after that, it’s a promise.

If we go by the usual definition of Dating Sim of “Build your relationship with girls to see boobs” well… there ARE girls, there ARE boobs and you build relations but… um… wait, let me start from scratch.

VA-11 Hall-A is only a dating sim if you stretch the definition of the term to the point where Soul Sacrifice might also fit because your NPC allies have an affinitty meter. You don’t get choices in the usual menu style and the game doesn’t branch to focus on the character you chose to pester the most, but there’s a lot of focus on characters and your relationship with the clients grow and change depending on the service you give them.

So in short, it’s just a hella bartender sim, not an outright dating sim.

We’ve been doing a lot of progress but it’s mostly backstage stuff, boring code things not worth showing unless you like to talk about that. Anyway, I’m on my break right now so I decided to post some of the cute artwork I’ve been doing, like a moe OS for the bartending software used in VA-11 HALL-A.

One of the most requested things was a recipe book, so I’ve been trying to come up with cute ways to make one, mostly with ugly results at the beginning like the one you probably saw in that Siliconera post, not even linking ittt.

So I was like, “Hey, this game is vaporwave as fuck already, what if the recipe book added even more ebin vaporwave?” enter CALICOMP, the most popular brand of computer hardware and software this side of dystopia.

It’s still work in progress, the branding is not quite there yet but I already nailed the ~feel~, which is super important. This OS will allow you to browse recipes, add recipes, read the newspaper, etc. It’s basically in every device you’ll use in VA-11 HALL-A, like Windows but cute.

You can also change the wallpapers but I only made two so far, gotta step up.

I have to go back to work now, there’s some other stuff I want to show but I’ll save it for another day.
