Back when we were prototyping the Cyberpunk Jam version, the “Ingredients” had the placeholder names “mod_a”,  “mod_b”,  “mod_c”,  “mod_d” and  “mod_e” (They’re still called that in the code). I tried making the ingredients use the letter on the mod_, so I started thinking about (A)delhyde (Aldehyde is the chemical compound and moving the L made it sound like Adelheid) and (B)ronson Extract (A manly ingredient… “Tetsuo Hara Extract” was a mouthful). After that I just skipped letters to Powdered (D)elta (Sour ingredient, like a certain Delita), (F)lanergide (Spicy ingredient, had to make “Flame” sound less obvious) and (K)armotrine (Thought back to how many times in movies Karma hits people when they’re drunk).

tl;dr: They were ad-libbed and just kinda stuck afterwards. They might as well have ended up being named Miyuki, Akane, Yayoi, Nao and Reika…

Well, this is a game set in a futuristic cyberpunk bar, and a large variety of people is something both a must and expected. Think of it, if VA-11 Hall-A wasn’t a diverse place it wouldn’t be as fun, considering we made this game wondering about what kind of people would live in a cyberpunk dystopia, which by default is a big multicultural place.
